BROADVIEW, Ill. (June 6, 2016) — Robert Bosch L.L.C. has expanded its OE Fine Wire Spark Plug series with its Double Iridium spark plug, which the firm said promotes longer service life up to four times longer than standard copper core plugs.
The product uses an iridium center electrode tip and iridium-platinum alloy ground electrode inlay for creating a precise spark, Bosch said.
Iridium is described as hard, brittle, silvery-white transition metal of the platinum group, considered the second-densest element as well as the most corrosion-resistant metal. It's a chemical element with symbol Ir and atomic number 77.
Other features include a double iridium firing pin and ground electrode pin; exclusive 360-degree continuous laser weld that fuses the firing pin to the base; a Fine Wire firing pin for better ignitability and durability; and OE-matched spark position for compatibility with new GDI technology.

According to Bosch, the product offers benefits such as a service life four times longer than standard copper core plugs and nickel-plated housing designed to eliminate the need for anti-seize to prevent corrosion. The plugs also are factory pre-gapped to OE specifications for quick installation.
