Quick Lane offering vets scholarships

DEARBORN, Mich. (June 6, 2016) — Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center is partnering with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to launch “Trading One Uniform For Another,” an initiative to award scholarships to U.S. military veterans toward a certification in automotive maintenance and repair.

To help veterans acquire the skills they need to become automotive technicians, Quick Lane will award $10,000 scholarships to five veterans, who will be selected by public vote from among 10 finalists chosen by the DAV based on essays describing why they would be a deserving recipient.

The funds can be used to pay for tuition, books and fees at any community college, university, trade or vocational school in the U.S. with an accredited program in automotive mechanics, according to Quick Lane, as Ford Motor Co. initiative.

Quick Lane and the DAV will select 10 finalists from all qualified nominees. In November during Military Appreciation Month, Quick Lane and the DAV will unveil the finalists at QLtradingone.com and invite the public to vote for a finalists to receive a scholarship.

Quick Lane and the DAV will announce the five scholarship recipients at this year's Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit on Dec. 26.

“Finding meaningful employment is an important task for many service men and women after retiring from active military duty,” said Frederiek Toney, president, global Ford customer service division. “The ‘Trading One Uniform For Another' program is another example of Quick Lane's commitment to the men and women who served our country.

“We are proud to stand beside the DAV in awarding these scholarships to our U.S. military veterans, thanking them for their service, and congratulating them on the pursuit of a career in automotive service and maintenance.”

The contest opened June 1. Interested parties can submit nominations at a dedicated website, QLtradingone.com.

The Promotion is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and District of Columbia, who are 21 or older, have served in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and received an honorable discharge from active military service, are enrolled or plan to be enrolled by December 31, 2017, in a college or university in the U.S. that has been accredited by the U.S. Department of Education

The DAV, a non-profit organization with nearly 1.3 million members, is dedicated to ensuring that veterans of all generations and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them. To do so, the DAV lobbies on Capitol Hill for veterans' interests; links veterans and their families to employment resources; and educates the public about the sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.

Quick Lane Tire is an initiative for Ford dealers, offering routine vehicle maintenance, light repair services and tire replacements on all vehicle makes and models through more than 800 locations operated by certified Ford dealers.
