WASHINGTON (June 2, 2016) — The Rubber Manufacturers Association has launched an online tire recall search tool concurrent with National Tire Safety Week.
The website, gives consumers a new resource to help determine if their tires are subject to a recall, the RMA said in a June 2 press release.
According to the association, the search tool covers all tire recalls involving RMA member companies since 2000. RMA members represent approximately 80 percent of all U.S. tire shipments, the association said.
The search tool works by entering the tire identification number (TIN) found on the sidewall of every tire sold in the U.S. If the tire is subject to a recall, the site provides contact information for consumers to learn about possible remedies, the RMA said.
All RMA members will provide links to the search tool on their websites, according to the association.
The Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, which passed Congress in December 2015, requires the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to create its own online search tools for tire recalls.
“RMA is assisting NHTSA as it develops a searchable database of all tire recalls,” said RMA President and CEO Anne Forristall Luke in a June 2 press release.
“Consumers, tire manufacturers and regulators all want recalled tires to be quickly identified and removed from service,” Ms. Luke said. “This tool will help accomplish this important safety goal.”
