The owner of 2005-06 Pontiac GTO may come into your store with a complaint that his/her hazard flasher stays on solid and can't be turned off, even after repeatedly pushing down on the flasher switch.
According to Pontiac, the problem is usually sporadic and caused by a glitch in the internal relay of the body control module (BCM).
Updated BCMs are now available to address the condition. Order Part No. 92176590 for 2005 models or Part No. 92179694 for 2006 vehicles.
"Factory Fixes" is written by Jim DePalma, a 30-year veteran of the auto repair business who has served stints as a service manager, parts manager and ASE-certified technician. His column provides vehicle manufacturers' authentic factory technical service bulletins (TSBs) that have been condensed for easier reading. Mr. DePalma advises that techs always check with a dealer or repair information system for the latest revisions before starting to work on a vehicle.
