FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (May 24, 2016) — Tire Alliance Groupe Ltd. (TAG) is marking its 20th year as a buying group as it boasts a record annual revenue in 2015 and 16 members spanning most of the U.S.
TAG said its strong base of large regional retailers and distributors is the key to the group's success. During its recent Member/Vendor Spring Meeting in New Orleans, TAG announced that it will celebrate the milestone during its fall meeting in New York City.
“Each year is a challenge as we continue to grow. There are different requirements in terms of member needs, vendor programs, and commitments on both sides. And as the industry has really been flat as it relates to retail sales, we have been fortunate to have the member dedication to continue to grow with our preferred vendors,” said TAG President Paul Alves,
For the fifth year in a row, the group increased its revenue and paid record dividends to its members, he said. TAG distributed more than $12 million in rebates and bonuses.
“We have worked hard to have the right vendors and programs that not only are very strong partners but deliver high value in terms of buying opportunities and support. We have been able to structure these programs where we are maximizing bonuses with the group's volume leverage and buying power,” Mr. Alves said.
“Our growth is not only attributed to the existing members taking on more programs from our product portfolio but also to the addition of key new members and new vendor programs,” he added.
Last year TAG added two members, expanding its national footprint and increased the group's total number of retail outlets to more than 2,500 stores. The new members are:
- Millwood, N.Y.-based Mavis Tire Supply which joined TAG through its acquisition of program member Somerset Tire Service (STS), adding 163 retail locations to the membership store count in the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania markets. Mavis and STS together operate more than 320 locations in the region.
- Birmingham, Ala.-based Express Oil Co./Tire Engineers, which operates 257 retail locations throughout the Southeast — 41 outlets operate as Tire Engineers and the remaining stores as Express Oil.
Mr. Alves said TAG continues to look at expansion opportunities in markets where “strategic additions make good business sense and strengthens the relationships TAG enjoys with its vendors partners.”
