BRUSSELS (May 23, 2016) — Tire makers in Europe have launched a campaign to raise awareness of best practices and procedures on tire maintenance, storage and service life.

Aimed at dealers, authorities and consumers, the TyreAWARE initiative is a collaboration between the European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers' Association (ETRMA) and its member companies.

The TyreAWARE materials, presented in 14 European languages, are available on a new interactive website, according to the ETRMA.

Comprehensive information is provided for tire dealers, government authorities and consumers alike on tire storage, purchase, maintenance and service life, the association said.

The website contains videos explaining the correct time to replace tires, the importance of monitoring correct inflation and when to fit vehicles with winter tyres, the ETRMA said.

Visitors to the microsite, it added, can test their tire-care knowledge by taking part in the TyreAWARE quiz, which is available in English.

“Tires are a complex and highly technological product and are the only element that connects a vehicle to the road,” said Fazilet Cinaralp, ETMRA secretary general.

“By following the information and the recommendations provided in this campaign, tires will be safer, last longer, consume less fuel, emit less CO2 and be quieter,” she added.

The ETRMA announcement on TyreAWARE was issued May 23, less than a week before National Tire Safety Week begins in the U.S.

The 15th annual National Tire Safety Week, slated for May 29-June 4, involves tire manufacturers, tire dealers, auto repairers and related organizations sponsoring activities and disseminating information about proper tire inflation and maintenance.

National Tire Safety Week is part of the Rubber Manufacturers Association's ongoing “Be Tire Smart—Play Your P.A.R.T.” tire safety program.
