BEIJING (May 20, 2016) — Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. will be supplying the China GT championship with race tires for the next three years, according to a contract signed recently with the organizers of that series.
China GT, set to launch in June with a race in Beijing, represents the highest level of competition in China, Pirelli said, featuring top GT brands such as Audi, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Nissan Nismo, Porsche and others.
Pirelli will supply the series' competitors with its P Zero DH and DHC slick tires, which it said are well-suited to the diverse track conditions in China and thus will ensure consistent performance over the whole season.
Pirelli said motorsport engineers from the company's head office will attend events during the entire season to support the teams and drivers. Financial terms were not disclosed.
This new contract expands Pirelli's relationship with the GT racing community to Asia. It already is the designated race tire supplier for the Blancpain GT Series in Europe, Pirelli World Challenge in North America, and various Ferrari Challenge and Lamborghini Super Trofeo series.
“Following the GT successes already achieved in Europe, North America and Pacific, we have finally arrived here in China,” said Ernesto Garcia Domingo, Pirelli motorsport business director, “where the automotive market is developing rapidly. We will fully leverage our extensive GT racing experience to assist China GT to grow into an even stronger championship in the near future, which also reflects Pirelli's determination to develop motorsport in this key region.”
