WASHINGTON (May 12, 2016) — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has granted Volkswagen of America's petition for a grant of inconsequential noncompliance regarding mislabeled tire placards.
The vehicles in question are 4,965 Volkswagen e-Golf vehicles, model years 2015-2016, manufactured between May 21, 2014 and Nov. 14, 2015, and 4,618 Golf R vehicles, model years 2015-2016, manufactured between Oct. 24, 2014 and Nov. 14, 2015.
In all these cars, the tire placards do not contain the word “none” in the area reserved for spare tire specifications, as required by federal law.
VW told NHTSA it believed the noncompliance was inconsequential because the misprint involves a part that is absent on the vehicles. Also, the auto maker said the error had no effect on drivability, safety or tire wear, and that it had received no consumer complaints because of it.
The notice of the grant of inconsequential noncompliance appeared in the May 10 Federal Register. It can be found by clicking here.
