BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (May 12, 2016) — The New York Attorney General's Office has obtained a settlement with Binghamton-based Kost Tire Distributors Inc. over an allegation that the company charged customers an extra $2 used oil disposal fee for each oil change performed.
New York state law requires service stations to collect and dispose of used oil free of charge, New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman said in a May 11 press release.
However, Kost Tire added the $2 charge at all 25 of its New York outlets, the attorney general said.
