GASTONIA, N.C. (May 4, 2016) — Mann+Hummel Group has finalized its acquisition of Affinia Group Inc., maker of Wix and Filtron brand filters.
Mann+Hummel, based in Ludwigsburg, Germany, is a privately held global filtration provider for original equipment and aftermarket customers in both the automotive and industrial sectors.
Mann+Hummel said it will operate the Affinia assets as a new business unit called Mann+Hummel Filtration Technology, which will continue to offer the Wix Filters and Filtron brands.
Gastonia-based Affinia's filtration business specializes in aftermarket oil, fuel, air, hydraulic and coolant filters. When the acquisition deal was announced last August, Mann+Hummel said both companies' filtration businesses held highly complementary competencies and customer relationships.
Affinia generated about $1 billion in annual revenue with operations in North America, Europe, Asia and South America, but in recent years Affinia had been parceling out its business to cut losses.
In 2014, Federal-Mogul Corp. acquired Affinia's chassis components business and in 2013 Affinia spun off its brake businesses in North America and Asia — which operate as Brake Parts Inc. (BPI), the maker of Raybestos brake products.
Last August Affinia signed agreements to divest the Brazilian operations of its Affinia South America (ASA) business, which makes up approximately 90 percent of ASA's sales.
