WASHINGTONThe Institute of Scrap Rubber Industries (ISRI) has launched a website to highlight recycled rubber.
The website, at www.Recycled-RubberFacts.org, is designed to serve as a visual and educational resource on the environmental and economic benefits that recycled rubber provides to society, ISRI said.
Among the facts on the website:
c Recycling four tires reduces carbon dioxide emissions by about 323 poundsequivalent to 18 gallons of gasoline.
c U.S. scrap rubber manufacturers recycle 110 million tires annuallyor one tire for every three people in the U.S.
c Using recycled rubber in molded products, compared with using virgin plastic resins, reduces the carbon footprint of those products by a factor of up to 20 times.
c Rubber recycling generates more than $1.6 billion in economic activity annually in the U.S., and accounts for nearly 8,000 jobs, both direct and indirect.
