Maxxis launching VR-1 street/track tire

SUWANEE, Ga. (March 28, 2016) — Maxxis International is launching the Maxxis VR-1 “extreme” summer street/track tire to North American customers through its eStore, starting March 31, in seven Z-rated sizes.

Maxxis rates the VR-1 as “great for competition as well as the street,” stating that it reaches operating temperature quickly in order to deliver “tenacious” dry traction while still retaining heat-cycling properties.

A directional tread pattern with 9/32nd-inch tread depth allows the tire to perform in wet weather, while a reinforced casing and sidewall design provide enhanced steering response.

Maxxis said it is considering offering the VR-1 through more traditional distribution channels, but for now it's available only through the eStore, the company's sales site for competition tires, factory gear and some office hard goods.

The VR-1 is being offered in sizes 205/50ZR15; 245/40ZR15; 205/55ZR16; 255/40ZR17; 245/40ZR18; 265/35ZR18; and 295/40ZR18. It's rated at UTQG 200 AA A except for 295/40R18, which is 140 AA A.

Among the targeted audience are those competing in National Auto Sports Association and Sports Car Club of America events.
