DANVERS, Mass. (March 23, 2016) — Maxam Tire North America Inc. is opening distribution warehouses in Long Beach, Calif., and Memphis to support a growing dealer network throughout the U.S. for Maxam's OTR and industrial tire lines.

“The North American specialty tire market demands top-level service, and the addition of these two warehouses will allow us to quickly respond to the needs of our customers,” said Troy Kline, president of Maxam North America, a subsidiary of Maxam Tire International Ltd. of Birmingham, England.

“By combining a fully supported factory-direct program and a customer service department, the Maxam program gives dealers the flexibility to effectively manage inventory cost, with full backing from our two key locations.”

The two leased locations total 160,000 square feet, Maxam said, and will carry a full inventory of Maxam radial and solid OTR tires, as well as a complete line of solid and pneumatic industrial tires.

Maxam Tire International established Danvers-based Maxam Tire North America about a year ago, and hired Mr. Kline — president and CEO of Maine Industrial L.L.C. from 2010-14 and prior to that an executive with GPX International Corp. — to lead the initiative to get the Maxam brand more firmly established in North America.

With the opening of the warehouses, Maxam can move beyond the container-load-only business model, Mr. Kline said. The Memphis location is the larger of the two, at 120,000 square feet. Maxam will use third-party contracted shippers for deliveries.

The brand's product offering covers construction tires, including solid and pneumatic skid steer, backhoe, grader and wheeled excavator tires. The brand includes OTR sizes up to 57-inch rim diameters, Mr. Kline said, with 63-inch sizes being developed.

Maxam has been active in the U.S. market since 2012 when it hired former Goodyear sales executive Tim Good as its North American territory manager.

The Maxam brand originated with Mai Group, a Verona, Italy-based retreader turned new tire manufacturer before selling its OTR assets in 2011 to investors, who set up Maxam Tire International in Luxembourg.

The company promotes its tires as “engineered in Europe” but doesn't disclose its manufacturing locations.

According to information published on Mai Group before Maxam took over, the OTR assets included a plant in Dongying, Shandong, China, that at one time had been part of Shandong Jinyu Tyre Co. Ltd.
