LEVITTOWN, Pa. (March 22, 2016) — Gallagher Tire Inc., a family-owned and -operated specialty tire wholesaler in Leavittown, will sponsor four scholarships for the 2016 Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW)  program this summer.

Being held from July 3 through Aug. 6 on the campuses of Lycoming College and Pennsylvania College of Technology, the program brings motivated high school students together with business people throughout the state to learn about the American free enterprise system, Gallagher Tire said.

During the seven-day program, students team up to simulate companies and the actual operation of their own business for the equivalent of three years. Facing all of the decisions that real executives are confronted by, the student companies are mentored by dedicated business volunteers who serve as company advisers.

Scholarships are valued at $575 each, according to the PFEW site.

Sharing their knowledge and expertise, company advisers address the most significant issues facing business today in straightforward, informal discussion with students. Since its inception 38 years ago, the program has graduated nearly 40,000 students, including President John “JP” Gallagher III, who participated in 1998.

According to PFEW Foundation President John Trombetta, John “Jack” Gallagher II was so impressed by his son's experience that he became an instant donor, passionate volunteer and booster of the program. Mr. Gallagher III continues his father's tradition of sponsoring scores of local students to PFEW.

"After almost 30 years, I can still recall many moments from my week at PFEW,” JP Gallagher said. “The program is special to all that participate. I look forward to the letters I receive from the sponsored participants every year. The program gives so much more than an insight to business and the real world.”

In business since 1968, Gallagher Tire distributes specialty tires and related products to dealers up and down the East Coast from warehouses in Levittown and Harrisburg, Pa., and Liverpool, N.Y., along with an office in Charlotte, N.C.

Gallagher Tire is an authorized distributor of Advanta, Alliance, Camso, Carlisle, CropMax, Deestone, Galaxy, Gladiator, Kenda and Titan tires, along with inner tubes from Nexen, Carlisle and Firestone, and truck/trailer/skid steer wheels.
