LEXINGTON, Neb. (March 1, 2016) — Bauer Built Inc. took the wraps off a new commercial/retail tire center in Lexington on Feb. 29, the store's first day of business.
Tad Bauer, president of the Durand, Wis.-based dealership, said the completion of the new facility — on Heartland Drive south of Lexington — comes after Bauer Built acquired Central Tire & Tread, a single-outlet commercial tire dealership in Lexington, last summer. At that time Bauer Built said it planned to build a new tire center closer to Interstate 80.
The Lexington location — in a community of about 10,000 along I-80 between Grand Island and North Platte, Neb. — became Bauer Built's sixth outlet in Nebraska and the farthest west of the dealership's outlets. The company bought Central Tire from owners Ernie and Ronda Harris, who were to stay on for an indefinite time to help transition the business.
The company is still working on putting in landscaping and other final touches on the outlet, which features two drive-through truck bays, two passenger/light truck bays, a passenger/light truck alignment rack and a truck alignment pit rack but no retread plant. It has six employees and is managed by Chris Matheny, according to a Bauer Built spokeswoman.
