TIJUANA, Baja California — The second annual Rally Histórico Transpeninsular is set to take place June 23-26, running more than 1,000 miles across Baja, California on the infamous and beautiful Mexico Route 1.
The race will take drivers from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas, and this year race organizers have added late model classes to attract a wider field of drivers. The bulk of the entries will still be pre-1975 cars.
Rally promoters said this year's competition also marks the addition of the “Rally Tour” — a non-competitive gran tour that follows the same path as the actual race cars and links up with the racing teams each night. The Rally Tour is designed for those who want to enjoy the spirit of the Rally Historico, they explained, but don't have a race-prepped car.
The race will start in Tijuana with overnight stops in Cataviña, Loreto and Cabo San Lucas. Entry fees include a hotel room, breakfast and dinner for each of the event's three days for the driver and co-driver.
Pre-registration for the rally will be until May 9; regular registration will run from May 10-29; late registration will take place from May 30 to June 15.
