MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Feb. 4, 2016) — TBC Corp. is planning to move its Memphis distribution center to a larger facility to be built later this year at an industrial park near Rossville, Tenn., on the Tennessee-Mississippi state line.
TBC has its eye on a site at the nearby Gateway Global Logistic Center Corp., a 1,600-acre industrial park about 20 miles east of the wholesale distributor's existing 1 million-sq.-ft. facility in southeast Memphis.
The company envisions building a 1.5 million-sq.-ft. warehouse at the Gateway complex, which offers easy access to Interstate 269, U.S. 72 and Tennessee Highway 385.
Tim Miller, executive vice president and chief financial officer, told local media TBC hasn't closed the deal yet on the property, but anticipates starting construction soon and moving to the new center by year-end or early in 2017.
TBC said the nearly 120 employees who work at the Memphis facility woule be offered jobs at the new site.
Fayette County Mayor Rhea Taylor said TBC would invest $65 million in the project and Fayette County and Rossville would provide TBC tax breaks over a 10-year period.
TBC operates 50 warehouses throughout the U.S. under both TBC and Carroll Tire Co. identities.
