Michelin adds Corvette Challenge

GREENVILLE, S.C. (Jan. 25, 2016) — Michelin North America Inc.'s motorsports engagement this year will include one new venue — the Michelin Corvette Challenge, a series featuring identically prepared, track-ready Corvette Stingray models racing at Spring Mountain Motor Resort & Country Club near Las Vegas.

The new Corvette Challenge will feature 15 races over eight weekends, using multiple configurations of Spring Mountain's 6.1-mile racetrack.

The cars will be prepared and maintained by the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School, based at Spring Mountain, and will use Michelin racing slick tires in dry conditions or Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires in wet conditions.

The first race weekend is Feb. 20-21.

Otherwise it's familiar territory this year for Bibendum in motorsports:

• IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship's GT Le Mans class (six teams, 10 cars);
• Formula E all-electric racing series' North American stops in Mexico City March 12 and Long Beach, Calif., April 2;
• Moto GP World Championship' U.S. round April 4 at Circuit of the Americas.
• SCORE International Race Series (BF Goodrich brand) — Baja 500 and 1,000;
• Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (BFG) — supporting competitors in several categories, including defending Pro 2 (Rob MacCacheren) and ProLite (RJ Anderson) class champions; and
• Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup (BFG) — BFG is the presenting sponsor.
