VAC, Hungary (Dec. 14, 2015) — Group Michelin is expanding and modernizing its Vac logistics center to improve its ability to serve customers in the region, primarily in Albania, Austria, Bulgaria and Czech Republic.
Michelin will invest $8 million to expand the site by 50 percent to 323,000 square feet and add office facilities, according to Michelin Hungaria Kft.
Speaking at a ceremony Dec. 9, Robert Szabo, head of Michelin Vac logistics, said the center will become a key distribution unit for Michelin, able to handle more than 3,000 tire SKUs, from truck and agricultural tires to earthmovers.
Mr. Szabo said the expansion will allow traffic at the site to triple as of next year.
The Vac logistics center is one of four sites Michelin operates in Hungary, including a passenger tire factory in Nyíregyháza, where the French tire maker is implementing a $53 million project to expand capacity for ultra-high-performance tires.
