GURGAON, India (Dec. 4, 2015) — Production at Apollo Tyres Ltd.'s tire plant in Oragadam, India, has been hit by recent flooding and rains in Chennai, India, according to a company filing on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
“The production was disrupted in three shifts til Dec. 2,” said the filing, adding that the production loss was approximately 450 metric tons.
According to the company, Apollo's insurance policy adequately covers the natural disaster.
Heavy rains and flooding have paralyzed the Tamil Nadu city of Chennai since late November and at least 188 are known to have died in floods.
Apollo announced in August that it was planning to expand its truck and bus radial facility in Chennai with an investment of $425 million over the next two to three years.
The project is expected to double truck-bus radial capacity at Chennai to 12,000 tires per day. The plant, the firm noted, also produces 16,000 passenger car tires per day.
