SEOUL, South Korea (Nov. 30, 2015) — To strengthen its presence in the European market, Nexen Tire Corp. has launched its first TV commercial across Europe through Eurosport, the continent's No.1 sports channel, touting its sponsorship of a United Kingdom soccer team.

The 30-second commercial featuring the Manchester City Football Club (FC) will air across 54 European countries for six months, according to the Seoul-based tire maker — from this December through May 2016 via Eurosport, which includes Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, and Eurosport 2 NEE.

“By launching the Eurosport TV commercial, which was produced to celebrate the partnership with Manchester City (Football Club), a leading football club in the Barclays Premier League, we are expecting to take great strides in improving the corporate image and increasing brand awareness in the European market,” Nexen Tire said in a press release. “We will continue to bolster our marketing activities in Europe in an effort to reach more European customers and raise our brand value in these markets.”

The commercial “personifies Nexen as a Manchester City FC player scoring in a game to represent the company's performance-driven technology and dynamic corporate image,” the company said, noting it also reflects the company's “premium positioning” by featuring it alongside Manchester City FC.

Nexen said it was unusual for Manchester City FC to have genuine fan club members participating in a commercial shoot, and behind-the-scenes clips of the commercial are scheduled to be released in December.

As the official partner of the Manchester soccer club, Nexen said it has been implementing various marketing initiatives by utilizing its sponsorship rights, and with the commercial's debut, the company plans to “further strengthen its marketing activity to enhance brand awareness in the European market.”

Nexen signed on as an official sponsor with the Manchester team in August. In October the company began construction of a tire plant in Czech Republic that will feature “the most advanced automation systems along with environmentally friendly technologies,” according to the tire maker. Commercial operation is planned to begin in 2018.
