PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 5, 2015) — Kevin W. Burch has been elected first vice chairman of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) by the group's board of directors.

Mr. Burch, who took the post Oct. 21, is president of Jet Express Inc., which is located in Dayton, Ohio, and Marion, Ind.

“Kevin has made it his life's work to advocate on behalf of the trucking industry and work diligently for our members,” said newly elected ATA Chairman Pat Thomas. “His knowledge of the industry and commitment and passion to improving the image of trucking is a terrific asset to ATA's leadership team.”

Mr. Burch has more than 42 years of experience in the trucking industry, including LTL, TL, air freight and consolidation, according to the ATA. In 1990 he became president of Jet Express, which has 90 company drivers, 230 owner-operators and 600 trailers and handles up to 400 truckloads per day throughout the U.S., primarily for the “just-in-time” automotive industry.

Under his leadership, Jet Express earned the prestigious “Worldwide Supplier Award” three consecutive years from General Motors Co., “Supplier of the Year” for 2011 — the only truckload supplier in North America to receive this award — and in 2015 received the Ryder Carrier Quality Award.

“We have an aggressive agenda,” Mr. Burch said of the ATA, “including passing a long-term highway funding bill, fixing some rules and regulations that affect trucking, recruiting drivers and technicians into our industry and saving lives on our nation's highways.”

He has been an active member of the trade group since 1990, serving on the Membership Committee, is on the selection committee for LEAD ATA, is past-chairman of its Communications and Image Policy Committee, and serves as vice chairman of the executive committee of the Trucking Moves America Forward image movement.

Mr. Burch also is heavily involved in Ohio, where he is a trustee of the Ohio Trucking Association, a steering committee member of the Dayton Logistics Council, a member of the Miami Valley Transportation Club in Dayton, Ohio, a member of the board of directors of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, and is involved in numerous committees including the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, the ATA said.

The ATA is the largest national trade association for the trucking industry, comprising a federation of 50 affiliated state trucking associations and industry-related conferences and councils.
