Trucking firm exec elected ATA vice chairman

ARLINGTON, Va. (Oct. 29, 2015) — The American Trucking Associations' (ATA) board of directors elected trucking executive Barry Pottle as the federation's vice chairman.

Mr. Pottle is president and CEO of Pottle's Transportation L.L.C. in Bangor, Maine.

“Barry has an extensive knowledge of the trucking industry and has proven leadership abilities,” said newly elected ATA Chairman Pat Thomas, vice president, state government affairs with UPS. “He has made a strong commitment to safety at Pottle's Transportation and he continues to lead the way in the industry as an advocate for trucking. We are very pleased to have him on our leadership team.”

Mr. Pottle said that “working with other industry leaders to provide support and direction to ATA's advocacy efforts is something that I am excited to do in the coming year. We need people throughout the country to understand how important trucking is to the American way of life.”

Pottle's Transportation was founded by Barry Pottle's father, Clifton Pottle, in 1972. In 1988, after working for the company for nine years, the younger Pottle purchased the truckload motor carrier company from his father. According to the ATA, he oversaw massive expansions in Pottle's Transportation's business operations and now manages a fleet of 180 trucks, over 500 trailers and terminals in Bangor and Fairfield, Maine, and Allentown, Pa.

He has been a member of the ATA since 1994, serving on its Highway Policy Committee, Communications & Image Committee, Nominating Committee, and as chairman of the Truck PAC. He has also represented Maine and other states by serving in various roles on the ATA board of directors and executive committee.

Mr. Pottle is a past chairman of the Truckload Carriers Association and the Maine Motor Transport Association, where he currently serves on the executive committee, board of directors and is chairman of the Maine Truck PAC.

The ATA is the largest national trade association for the trucking industry. It comprises a federation of 50 affiliated state trucking associations and industry-related conferences and councils.
