K&M buying Midwest Tire of S.D.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (Oct. 2, 2015) — Wholesaler K&M Tire Inc. is expanding again, agreeing to buy Midwest Tire & Muffler Inc., according to the Rapid City-based wholesaler.

The deal takes effect Oct. 5, according to a letter sent by Midwest Tire to its customers and suppliers.

In the letter, Midwest's Dwayne Rydell describes the transaction as “an opportunity from another company that values their customers and employees as we do….”

Financial terms are not being disclosed. K&M confirmed the deal but deferred questions about it until after the official takeover date.

In business for more than 45 years, Midwest Tire & Muffler operates wholesale distribution centers in Box Elder and Tea, S.D., and Bismarck, N.D., distributing tires, tools, exhaust, mufflers, towing accessories, tire repair products, etc. to customers in Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Wyoming and the Dakotas.

The business is owned by Mr. Rydell and Larry Haley, who told customers: “We are confident that your new business relationship with K&M Tire will only build upon your past association and success with Midwest Tire & Muffler.”

All of Midwest's employees are expected to continue working under K&M's ownership, Mr. Rydell said.

According to its website, Midwest handles passenger and light truck tires (Bridgestone, Falken, Firestone, GT,  Hankook, Hercules, Kanati and Kumho); truck tires (GT, Hankook, Hercules, Ironman, Kumho); ATV tires (Carlisle and GBC); farm tires (Alliance, American Farmer, Titan, Goodyear and Greenball); and industrial/construction/lawn and garden tires (Carlisle, Camoplast-Solideal and Greenball).
