WASHINGTON (Oct. 1, 2015) — Congress has passed a continuing resolution funding the operations of the federal government until Dec. 11, avoiding a government shutdown that would have begun Oct. 1.
The Senate voted 78-20 on Sept. 30 to approve the resolution, just hours after the House of Representatives passed the legislation by a 277-151 vote. The resolution did not contain a provision denying federal funds to Planned Parenthood, which some congressional conservatives demanded as a prerequisite for their vote, while threatening to shut down the government over the funding.
