WASHINGTON (Sept. 14, 2015) — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a final rule amending safety recall standards to clarify that replacement vehicle equipment manufacturers can satisfy recall requirements by refunding the purchase price of the recalled parts.
NHTSA is making the amendments to satisfy changes in safety recall provisions made in the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) rule passed in 2012, according to the notice published in the Sept. 14 Federal Register.
The new rule becomes effective Nov. 13, but NHTSA is accepting petitions for reconsideration until Oct. 20. The notice may be found by clicking here.
