TravelCenters celebrating trucker appreciation week

WESTLAKE, Ohio (Sept. 8, 2015) — TravelCenters of America L.L.C. is hosting driver appreciation events at some of its locations during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, which will takes place Sept. 13-19.

TravelCenters said National Truck Driver Appreciation Week salutes and recognizes professional truck drivers “for the difficult and demanding job they do so well, each and every day.” Many of the company's TA and Petro Stopping Centers truck stop locations will have special events through Oct. 2.

Each location will be handing out driver appreciation giveaways, and the chain's UltraONE members will earn Double Points on fuel purchases by swiping their UltraONE card at TA and Petro sites on Monday, Sept. 14, along with an array of goodies, games and music at many of the sites.

“Millions of professional drivers deliver our goods across America safely, securely and on time every day,” said Tom O'Brien, TravelCenters president and CEO. “Not only are they handling one of our economy's most demanding and important jobs, but they are also helping keep our highways safe. It's important we take the time to honor these hard working and committed individuals for not only their dedication, but for continually moving America forward.”

The chain also will host health fairs that will include healthcare professionals conducting blood-pressure screenings and

glucose testing. Other activities will vary by location, such as bean bag toss, basketball, dog washing, live bands, truck windshield washing, and more.

“TA and Petro are uniquely qualified to host these health fairs given their focus on driver health through the StayFit program, launched nearly six years ago, to assist professional drivers in getting more healthy and fit,” the company said. “The StayFit program includes healthier meal options at TA and Petro full-service restaurants and better-for-you snack options in the Travel Stores. Additionally, free fitness rooms, walking trails and basketball courts are offered at a variety of locations nationwide.

“TravelCenters believes that helping to raise awareness of health issues affecting professional truck drivers, as well as helping drivers to make health improvements, is part of showing drivers the respect they deserve.”
