TOKYO (Aug. 28, 2015) — Mazda Motor Corp. has selected the Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd.'s Avid S34 all-season tire as an OE fitment on its CX-3 compact crossover, which is now going on sale in the U.S.
Yokohama will be supplying two sizes — P215/60R16 94H and P215/50R18 92V — for the Sport and Grand Touring versions, respectively, of the five-seat, four-door hatchback.
The front-wheel-drive CX-3 is powered by Mazda's 2-liter, 146-horsepower four-cylinder Skyactiv-G engine, with all-wheel drive an option. Prices start at $19,960, Mazda said.
Yokohama said the Avid S34 was developed using the basic design and materials technology used in the company's “BluEarth” global tire brand, which is based on the concept of “environmentally, human and socially friendly.”
The S34 contributes to higher fuel efficiency, Yokohama said. Mazda rates the CX-3 at 31 mpg for the front-wheel-drive model and 29 mpg for the all-wheel-drive version.
