WASHINGTON (Aug. 24, 2015) — The U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has approved a bill that encourages the use of remanufactured parts in maintaining vehicles in the civilian federal fleet.
Passed in the committee https://oversight.house.gov/ by voice vote July 22, H.R. 1613 requires the head of each civilian government agency to use remanufactured parts in vehicle maintenance whenever using remanufactured parts would reduce costs while maintaining quality.
In reporting the bill, the committee also directed the U.S. General Accountability Office to conduct a study evaluating the potential cost savings of shifting government fleet repair work to private sector vendors through a full and open competitive procurement process, according to a press release from the Automotive Service Association, one of H.R. 1613's major supporters.
There is no word on when H.R. 1613 might be considered before the full House of Representatives, which is currently in recess.
