WASHINGTON (Aug. 11, 2015) — Discount Tire Co. is recalling 79,513 Pathfinder SAT replacement light truck tires because the inner liner gauges may be lower than specified, possibly leading to tread separation and rapid air loss.
Discount Tire told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the recalled tires include:
- Pathfinder SAT LT245/75R17E1 121R W tires manufactured between Sept. 16, 2013 and May 19, 2015, bearing DOT codes K2HQ YD5T 3813 to 2515;
- Pathfinder SAT LT265/75R16E1 123Q W tires manufactured between Aug. 5, 2013 and May 19, 2015, bearing DOT codes H2W8 YD5T 3213 to 2515;
- Pathfinder SAT LT265/70R17E1 121S B tires manufactured between Sept. 2, 2013 and May 19, 2015; bearing DOT codes K2HG YD5T 3613 to 2515; and
- Pathfinder SAT LT275/65R18E1 123S B tires manufactured between Oct. 7, 2013 and May 19, 2015, bearing DOT codes K2 HU YD5T 4113 to 2515.
Approximately 60 percent of the recalled tires have the inner liner gauge defect, according to a NHTSA safety recall report.
The plant codes listed for this recall, H2 and K2, are for Kumho Tire Co. Ltd. plants in Kwangju, South Korea, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Discount Tire told NHTSA it will notify owners and dealers of the tires and replace them free of charge, beginning in August. Tire owners also may contact Discount Tire customer service at 888-519-6914.
