BRUSSELS (July 20, 2015) — Replacement and OE tire sales were up throughout the European Union in the first six months of 2015, according to the latest European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) data.
2015 Euro tire sales up through June
On the down side, agricultural and winter passenger tire sales were down by double digits. The ETRMA did not provide commentary on the reasons for the growth.
By category, the ETRMA reported:
- Replacement market consumer tire sales were up 2.2 percent to 100.7 million units, buoyed by 18.5-percent growth in summer car tire sales in June.
- OE consumer tire sales were up 4.4 percent to 46.6 million units.
- Replacement truck tire sales rose 1.8 percent to 4.4 million units, helped by 7.4-percent growth in June.
- OE truck tire sales jumped 11.5 percent to 2.86 million units, buoyed by 20.7-percent growth in June.
By contrast, agricultural and winter car tire sales plunged 13.9 and 13.4 percent, respectively, to 850,000 and 9.86 million units.
The ETRMA did note that the the drop in ag tire sales was in contrast with growing imports from China and India.
