Bosch sponsoring student engineer competition

STUTTGART, Germany (July 7, 2015) — Bosch Group is a sponsorship partner of Formula Student 2015, a motorsport competition involving more than 3,000 student engineers from around the world.

The event — which will be held at the Silverstone Circuit in Towcester, Northamptonshire, England, July 9-12 — involves 135 teams from 28 countries. Engineering students will be challenged to design, build and race a single-seater racing car in just one year.

About 10 percent of Formula Student competitors are female, reflecting the automotive industry's continuing efforts to increase the number of women in engineering, according to Bosch, which has been sponsoring the event for the past eight years.

By 2020, Bosch said it wants 20 percent of its worldwide leadership roles to be occupied by women, up from its current level of 12 percent. To provide women with assistance and support on their career paths, Bosch Group said it offers special mentoring programs, networks, seminars and training courses.

To support female students looking to break into the industry, the Bosch IngA3 mentoring program supports women currently studying for technical degrees. The initiative gives female undergraduates academic and practical advice, including which courses to undertake and how to gain work experience, the company said.
