LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 20, 2015) — Ashland Inc.'s Valvoline Instant Oil Change brand has partnered with Hendrick Motorsports to launch “What's Under the Hood?,” an online challenge designed to test the do-it-yourself automotive knowledge of car lovers.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson each will step out from behind the wheel to take a turn as host of the interactive video game show series. Auto enthusiasts and NASCAR fans can take the challenge and join in the first of four quiz rounds, featuring Mr. Gordon, by visiting ValvolineUndertheHood.com, Valvoline said.
Subsequent rounds featuring Messrs. Earnhardt, Kahne and Johnson will be released bi-weekly through early July. Valvoline added that fans who purchase five quarts of any Valvoline motor oil at any participating store locations now through July 31 can redeem limited edition hats, designed by the participating drivers, by visiting ValvolineHat.com.
Following the completion of all four rounds, the drivers will go head-to-head in a race on behalf of the four finalists to determine the grand prize winner of a new or classic car, Valvoline said.
“It was so much fun working with Valvoline as a host on 'What's Under the Hood?' this season,” said Mr. Gordon, driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet SS. “I can't wait to see how the fans do.”
Each active round will feature a different driver's quiz in multiple-choice format — the more times a contestant plays, the more opportunities they have to win.
“Valvoline is second to none when it comes to car knowledge,” said Mr. Earnhardt, driver of No. 88 Chevrolet SS. “This quiz is a great way for fans to show off their expertise — or brush up their skills — and win some pretty cool gear in the process."
Valvoline is the Official Lubricants Supplier of Hendrick Motorsports and is featured as a major associate sponsor of the team's Chevrolet SS race cars. Valvoline said Hendrick Motorsports uses a specially designed Valvoline racing formulation in its Chevrolet R-07 racing engines in the elite Sprint Cup Series.
