Goodyear sole OE on '16 Camaro

AKRON (May 18, 2015) — General Motors Co. will outfit its 2016 Camaro performance lineup exclusively with Goodyear Eagle performance tires, Goodyear disclosed.

According to Chevrolet, the sixth-generation Camaro has been redesigned from the ground up to offer the exceptional driving dynamics and refinement of a world-class performance car. The two-door, four-passenger, rear-drive Camaro is expected to be in dealers' showroom this fall.

Goodyear said GM and Goodyear engineers devoted more than 13,000 hours of tire development and testing to come up with three unique tire fitments engineered to complement the performance and character of the new Camaro.

“Goodyear and Chevrolet share a similar heritage, built on both performance and innovation,” said Johann Finkelmeier, Goodyear's vice president of North America original equipment sales.

“Each of our Eagle performance tires have been tuned to the Camaro chassis, and incorporate Goodyear's innovative advancements in tire technology to deliver superior traction and handling.”

The Camaro LS and LT models will feature Eagle Sport All-Season tires in size 245/50R18 as the standard fitment, Goodyear said, and the Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Season RunOnFlat in size 245/40R20.

The Camaro SS features 20-inch aluminum wheels equipped Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 RunOnFlat in sizes 245/40ZR20 (front) and 275/35ZR20 (rear).

Both the Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Season and the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 feature Goodyear's RunOnFlat technology, which allows consumers to drive up to 50 miles on a deflating or deflated tire at a top speed of 50 mph.

Goodyear also has some OE fitments on the 2015 Ford Mustang, the Camaro's direct competitor.

The 2016 Camaro is based on GM's Alpha platform — best known as the foundation for the compact Cadillac ATS sedan and coupe — and measurs 188.3 inches bumper to bumper.

The base Camaro LS will be powered by GM's turbocharged 2-liter four cylinder, tuned to 275 horsepower, which Chevy is claiming should deliver 0-60 mph times under 6 seconds and 30-plus mpg highway.

The LT gets Chevy's familiar 3.6-liter V6 equipped with GM's Active Fuel Management technology, which disables two cylinders under light load to improve efficiency. Chevy estimates 335 hp.

The top-of-the-line SS model gets a 6.2-liter direct-injected LT1 V8, rated at 455 horsepower.

Chevy is offering a six-speed manual transmission with each engine option.

Both the four- and six-cylinder Camaros will offer a Brembo brake upgrade, Chevrolet said. The standard Brembo package on the SS has 13.6-inch rotors front, 13.3-inch rear, with fixed four-piston calipers.
