Vifrio Guatemala abre planta de recauchutado en Panamá

    Los hermanos Vifrio, René Suárez Mayen y Rodrigo Suárez Mayen, en el lugar de Demostraciones/Pruebas de Caterpillar fuera de Tucson, Arizona.

    TUCSON, Arizona — El distribuidor y recauchutador de neumáticos guatemalteco Vifrio Guatemala abrió un negocio de recauchutado en Panamá dedicado a producir recauchutado de OTR para servir a las industrias de minería y construcción en ese país.

    La compañía nueva, llamada Panamá Recaps, está configurada para recauchutar radiales OTR en diámetros de 25 a 49 pulgadas, según René Suárez Mayen, gerente general.

    Vifrio contrató a Rösler Tyre Innovators G.m.b.H. & Co. K.G. de Alemania para ayudar a diseñar la planta y proveer entrenamiento y tecnología de caucho, dijo el Sr. Mayen a Tire Business en una entrevista en la reciente Conferencia de Neumáticos OTR de la Asociación de la Industria de Neumáticos en Tucson.

    La nueva planta está diseñada para producir alrededor de 80 recauchutados por mes en la faz inicial. No se divulgó el tamaño de la inversión.

    Vifrio Guatemala fue fundada en 1947 por el abuelo del Sr. Mayen, comenzando con una estación Pemex en Quetzaltenang, Guatemala. Agregó partes de autos y comenzó a distribuir neumáticos marca Mohawk, la marca que Pemex comercializaba en el momento.

    El abuelo escuchó sobre el proceso de recauchutado Bandag, dijo el Sr. Mayen, y fue a visitar al fundador de Bandag Roy Carver. Como resultado, se le otorgó la primera licencia Bandag fuera de EE. UU. Comenzó en 1956 en la Ciudad de Guatemala.

    En los 1970, Vifrio abrió una sucursal en El Salvador, dijo el Sr. Mayen, la vendió, volvió a adquirir los activos en 2009 y luego reabrió bajo el nombre de Neucasa, que se concentra ahora en neumáticos para camionetas.

    Vifrio vendió principalmente la marca Michelin por 49 años, dijo, pero después que Bridgestone Corp. compró Bandag, la compañía cambió a las marcas Bridgestone y Firestone para autos y camionetas.

    La planta de recauchutado de la firma tiene la certificación ISO 9001:2008.

    Debido a que la compañía Mitsui tiene la licencia para los neumáticos OTR de Bridgestone en Guatemala, Vifrio vende ahí la marca Goodyear para neumáticos OTR.

    La firma opera 10 tiendas al detalle y cuatro comerciales en Guatemala y tiene compañías de ventas/servicio en Honduras y Nicaragua.

    La compañía no divulgó sus ventas anuales. Como grupo, emplea a más de 500 personas, dijo el Sr. Mayen. El padre del Sr. Mayen, René Suárez Mayen Sr. es el CEO, su hermano Rodrigo Suárez Mayen es el gerente de operaciones y su madre Patricia es la gerente de recursos humanos.
