SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.Private and import brand marketer American Pacific Industries Inc. (API) has moved its headquarters to Scottsdale and opened an East Coast warehouse in Camp Hill, Pa., a Harrisburg suburb with access to Interstate Highways 76, 81, 83.
API, marketer of the Advanta, Gladiator, Minos and Zenna brands, moved to temporary quarters in Scottsdale last August and is preparing to move to more permanent offices in north Scottsdale late May, according to Tom Burkhardt, general manager.
The decision to move was largely financial, Mr. Burkhardt said, noting that Arizona's corporate taxes are measurably lower than those in California.
The move from Valencia, Calif., involved roughly 20 employees, Mr. Burkhardt said, all but two of whom moved with the company.
In Pennsylvania, API started moving inventory in early May into the leased warehouse in Camp Hill, Mr. Burkhardt said.
The facility is API's second in the U.S., complementing the one it's had in Dallas for the past 20 years.
Mr. Burkhardt said most of API's China-sourced consumer brands are from tire makers in the 31-percent duty range and thus not nearly as crushing as management originally feared. As a result, API has resumed shipments of its brands and been able to restore relations with most its long-time customers.
He did not discuss pricing specifics.
