SYRACUSE, N.Y. (May 4, 2015) — McCarthy Tire Service has bought Commercial Truck Tire Center Inc. in Syracuse, a single-location commercial tire business that expands the McCarthy footprint to 45 locations in six eastern states.
The acquisition fills a gap in McCarthy's coverage along I-90, giving the Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-based dealership a location between Rochester and Albany, a stretch of nearly 130 miles.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. McCarthy struck the deal with the Cairns family, who have owned and operated the business for 25 years.
McCarthy is converting the outlet to its own signage and is in the process of phasing in its primary brands — Bridgestone, Firestone and Bandag retreads.
“Commercial Truck Tire Center has an excellent reputation in the Syracuse market and their employees exhibit the high quality of customer care that has long been a McCarthy standard,” said McCarthy Tire President John McCarthy Jr.
“Opening up in the same facility…(and) welcoming all of their employees into the McCarthy team provides us with a great platform to continue and expand on the excellent customer service the Cairns family has been providing for over 25 years,” he added.
President and Owner Stephen Cairns is retiring, McCarthy said, and no other Cairns family members will continue with the operation under McCarthy's ownership.
The East Syracuse business includes a Bandag retread plant, but owing to McCarthy Tire's capacity at three existing New York retread shops it will be closed.
Ten Commercial Truck Tire Center employees have been offered positions with McCarthy Tire Service. Edward Gegenheimer is the location manager.
McCarthy Tire first expanded into western New York in late 2012 with the acquisition of Main Tire Exchange Inc., a dealership/retreader with locations in Buffalo, Rochester and Dansville.
Last year it added a commercial location/retread plant in Albany, N.Y., by buying Terry-Haggerty Tire.
In addition to the 45 commercial centers in Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia, McCarthy has seven Bandag retread plants and 21 predominantly retail out
