Spanish firm takes top 'Miss Retread' honor

    NEW ORLEANS (April 20, 2015) — Industrias Del Neumaticos S.A.U. of Alicante, Spain, took home the first place trophy and a $5,000 prize in the Miss Retread Tire Contest, held during the North American Tire & Retread Expo April 15-17 in New Orleans.

    The winning retread, on a Hankook casing size 345/65R22.5, was manufactured using a hot integral system. Salvador Perez Lucena, international sales manager, and Pedro Antonio Perez Sanchez, sales department, accepted the award on behalf of the company.

    The two received their honor in front of a crowd on the trade show floor as the drummer from a Dixie Jazz band played a drum roll.

    Allied Oil & Tire Co., Omaha, Neb., finished second and Centre Techno Pneu Inc., Rimouski, Quebec, finished third, earning $2,500 and $1,000 respectively. Allied Oil is a Michelin Retread Technologies licensee, while Techno Pneu is a mold-cure retreader that advertises an association with Brazilian retread materials producer Borrachas Vipal S/A.

    In all 22 companies from six countries entered the competition.

    Entries were judged by:David Stevens, managing director of the Tire Retread & Information Bureau; Federico Schmidt, commercial manager, Vipal Rubber Corp.; and Ron Mohler, commercial development manager, Elgi Rubber Co. L.L.C.

    The jury was tasked with selecting the company that produced and presented the most beautiful retreaded truck tire.
