Forbes lists 4 tire makers among best employers

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (April 15, 2015) — Four tire makers made the list of “America's Best Employers for 2015,” according to Forbes magazine.

Bridgestone Corp. (No. 215), Continental A.G. (No. 267), Group Michelin (No. 299) and Goodyear (No. 322) were listed among the 500 best employers across 25 industries with U.S.-based operations.

Forbes, in partnership with Statista.com, said it surveyed more than 20,000 American workers at large U.S. companies, nonprofit institutions such as hospitals, government agencies, and U.S. divisions of multinationals. The magazine asked them to rate, on a scale of 0-10, how likely they would be to recommend their employer to someone else.

The companies on the list employ at least 2,500 in the U.S. The mix of respondents — gender, age, region, educational level and ethnicity — in the sample is representative of the overall U.S. workforce, according to Forbes, adding that, where appropriate, subsidiaries of larger entities were combined for evaluation.

In her article on America's best employers, Forbes staffer Clare O'Connor wrote that “some of the results probably may not surprise you, like our top-ranked employer: Google, long one of Silicon Valley's top perk palaces and known for its campus-like environment.”

Other top companies that made the grade included California-based tech firms Facebook and Apple Inc., Maine-based catalog company L.L. Bean, wholesaler Costco, and the top governmental employer: the Fire Department of the City of New York.
