WESTLAKE, Ohio (March 23, 2015) — The American Trucking Associations (ATA) has appointed a TravelCenters of America L.L.C. (TA) executive as vice-chairman of the group's Communications and Image Policy Committee.
Tom Liutkus, vice president of marketing and public relations for TA since 2010, joins the committee whose purpose is “to improve the image of the trucking industry and develop communications strategies for ATA policy and legislative initiatives,” according to the ATA, and also enhance the association's communications with its members, the news media and the general public.
Tom O'Brien, president and CEO of TA, said the company, which operates the TA and Petro Stopping Centers truck stop brands, “is pleased to expand its years-long effort to appreciate those that make trucking a career worthy of the respect of the public.
“Tom Liutkus has been a vital part of that effort, having developed many of our initiatives, including our renowned ‘Citizen Driver' program, which gives recognition to some of the hardest working drivers in the U.S.; we are happy that Tom has been asked to devote a portion of his substantial enthusiasm and ability to the ATA in this capacity.”
Mr. Liutkus has been with TA and its predecessor companies for more than 35 years.
Westlake-based TA operates 254 full-service locations off interstate highway exits in 43 states and Canada.
The ATA's stated mission is to serve and represent the trucking industry with a single, united voice to influence policies beneficial to the industry; promote safety on America's highways; improve the industry's image, efficiency, and competitiveness; educate the public about the critical role trucking plays in the economy; and research significant industry issues while striving for a healthy business environment.
It is the largest national trade association for the trucking industry, operating through a federation of 50 affiliated state trucking associations and industry-related conferences and councils.
