DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (March 5, 2015) — Nexen Tire America Inc. is hoping to elevate its brand awareness with U.S. consumers by sponsoring a “College Hoops Challenge” tied to the upcoming NCAA College Basketball Championship Tournament — a.k.a., “March Madness.”

The top prize will be $10,000, Nexen said, for the contestant who accumulates the highest point total for picking winners throughout the 65-game, three-week tournament, which starts March 17 and culminates April 6.

The contest is open at no charge to U.S. residents at least 18 years old, Nexen said, but is especially aimed at generating interest in the tire industry, including retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers,

“Our goal is to have the industry buzzing during the month of March and to have Nexen at the center of it all,” said Kyle Roberts, Nexen's director of marketing.

“We felt building this promotion around one of the biggest sports events of the year would be a great way to elevate our brand awareness both within the industry and with the general public.”

Registration is available by clicking here.

Winners will be determined by a weighted point system: one point for each winner in Round 1; two points in Round 2; four points in Round 3; eight points in Round 4; 16 points in Round 5; and 32 points for picking the tournament winner. Nexen said the tie breaker is the total number of points scored in the championship game.

Registration ends March 16 and changes can be made to selections up until the start of the first game. Scoring will be kept online and up to date rankings will be available as well.

Additional prizes for the top five finishers will be awarded, ranging from $500 to $2,500.
