NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (Feb. 26, 2015) —Michael P. McGuire, director of human services at Pete's Tire Barn, died on Feb. 23 in Northampton at age 66.
Mr. McGuire was an employee of Pete's Tire Barns for 30 years.
He was born in Lewiston, Maine, and graduated from the Edward Little High School in Auburn, Maine. Mr. McGuire received his associate degree from Wentworth Institute and his BA in sociology from the former Boston State College.
Mr. McGuire went on to teach in many capacities, including at Cathedral High School in Springfield, Mass., and for the American Real Estate Academy teaching Real Estate Licensing Courses.
He enjoyed working on family genealogy, spending time at his homes in Vermont and Nova Scotia and caring for his grandson, Ryder and his nieces and nephews.
Mr. McGuire is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary (Neffinger) McGuire; son Davyn McGuire and his wife Rebecca White; grandson Ryder McGuire; brother Steven McGuire and his wife Jane; sisters Coreen Robert and her husband Norman and Jeanne Hosmer and her husband Don; and his father-in-law, Norbert Neffinger; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a 10 a.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial on Feb. 27 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Northampton, with burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. McGuire's family suggested donations in his name be made to the Northampton Survival Center, 265 Prospect Street, Northampton, MA 01060.
