Tire inflators to use improved propellant

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Feb. 3, 2015) — Honeywell International Inc. will use its environmentally friendly chemical, Solstice  Propellant, in Fix-A-Flat- and Slime-brand consumer and commercial tire inflators.

Accessories Marketing, a marketer of aerosol tire inflators, has chosen Solstice Propellant in its new ultra-low-global-warming-potential (GWP) versions of its flagship tire inflator products.

With a GWP of less than 1, Solstice Propellant helps these products meet global environmental regulations for high-GWP propellants while offering the same reliable performance as prior-generation products, Honeywell claimed.

“Companies like Accessories Marketing are turning to Solstice Propellant so they can maintain the performance benefits of today's propellants while meeting current and pending regulations,” said David Cooper, global business director for Honeywell's Fluorine Products business. “With a GWP lower than carbon dioxide, Solstice Propellant enables Accessories Marketing to sell its products around the world.”

Solstice Propellant is considered a replacement for HFC-134a propellant, which has a GWP of 1,300. It is also not a volatile organic compound (VOC), as determined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resource Board (CARB), the company said.
