WASHINGTON (Jan. 30, 2014) — Goodyear has recalled 48,512 Fortera HL tires, size P255/65R18 109S, after the tire maker discovered cracking in the treads during routine tire endurance tests.
The tires were supplied as original equipment for several model year 2015 SUVs manufactured by General Motors Co. — the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia crossover vehicle — and for the aftermarket.
GM earlier notified dealers to stop delivery of about 6,300 Traverse, Acadia and Enclave CUVs pending Goodyear's recall.
The tires were manufactured between Nov. 30, 2014 and Jan. 10, 2015, Goodyear told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, at the firm's plant in Napanee, Ontario.
Because this was a test-induced defect, there is no evidence of the tires failing in use, Goodyear said. If they had, tread chunking, vehicle vibration and noise would have resulted, it said.
Goodyear will replace the tires free of charge and will notify all owners for which it has registration information. Vehicle owners who have the recalled tires may contact GM at 800-521-7300 (Buick), 800-222-1020 (Chevrolet) or 800-462-8782 (GMC). Replacement tire buyers may contact Goodyear directly at 800-592-3267
