Maxion Wheels produces alloy and steel wheels for passenger cars, light trucks and commercial trucks and trailers along with steel wheels for military, agricultural and other off-highway applications.
Maxion claims to be the world's largest wheel manufacturer, producing 65 million wheels per year and generating sales of more than $2 billion. The wheel business is overwhelmingly OE-centric, accounting for 97 percent of revenue, according to Iochpe-Maxion data.
More than half of the firm's sales come from light vehicle wheel sales, with a quarter derived from the commercial vehicle wheel business.
The company has operations in 12 countries on five continents, including state-of-the-art technical centers in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Sao Paulo-based Iochpe-Maxion is active in the production of wheels and structural components for light and commercial vehicles and of railway equipment in Brazil.
The company was founded in 1918 in the lumbering business and over time expanded into the financial and industrial sectors. The focus on automotive parts and railway equipment started in the 1990s.
Besides Hayes-Lemmerz, Iochpe-Maxion has made three other acquisitions in the wheel business since 2009 — the wheels business of ArvinMeritor in Brazil, Mexico and the U.S. and the wheels business of Nugar S.A.P.I. de C.V., a Mexican company.
