Trelleborg recently picked up a FinOvation Award for its ProgressiveTraction tire featuring a double-lug design.

AKRON (Jan. 21, 2015) — Farm Industry News, which sponsors an annual readers' choice award to 20 innovative products in the agricultural industry, will honor three tire-related companies — Trelleborg Wheel Systems S.p.A., Titan Tire Corp and PTG of Germany — with its FinOvation Awards during the Farm Machinery show, Feb. 11-14 in Louisville, Ky.

    The three tire-related categories are:

    • Tire Technology — Trelleborg won recognition for its ProgressiveTraction tire designed to improve farming efficiency with a double-lug design. Operating on the soil at different times, the double lug progressively releases higher traction when required, according to the tire maker. The double lug also provides the tire with better floatation capability, ensuring an even pressure distribution over the extra wide footprint.
    • Changing footprint — Titan introduced a new approach to traction, called Extreme Flotation, which it said is designed to offer tractors a tighter turning radius, a smoother ride, reduced soil compaction and better flotation. The larger tires with a low sidewall design — including the Goodyear Super Terra Grip XT 1000/40R32 and the Goodyear DT930 1100/45R46 — provides better lateral stability on hillsides and cuts down on road lope and power hop.
    • Best Tire Pressure — The automatic inflation system made by PTG and sold in the U.S. by Precision Inflation L.LC., allows tractor operators to drop tire pressures for lower compaction and better performance during fieldwork, and raise it again for road transport.
