TOKYO (Jan. 20, 2014) — The organizer of F4 Japanese Championship, a new series for open-wheel single-seat racers, has chosen Dunlop as the designated race tire brand for the 2015-17 seasons.
Series organizer GTA said its contract is with Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. Financial terms were not disclosed.
F4 is a category that focuses on developing young drivers who are striving to compete in Japan's Super GT series. The series organizer, which also sanctions the Super GT series, said it intends to offer scholarship programs to help foster the young talent.
The championship will be held as a support race for Super GT's seven Japanese events.
Cars will be based on the F4, an international specification defined by the Federation International de l'Automobile (FIA) — the Paris-based governing body for world motor sport — with chassis designed and built by domestic constructors, such as Dome and Tom's.
GTA did not specify which engine or engines will be allowed.
