BOWIE, Md. (Dec. 8, 2014) — The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has released “Tire Safety Starts with Tire Selection,” the latest in its “Tire Safety Starts with…” safety video series.
“Tire Safety Starts with Tire Selection” covers the information consumers need when selecting replacement tires, TIA said. The video explains the importance of following the vehicle placard when selecting a tire, as well as the basic differences between summer, winter, all-season and all-terrain tires.
The video also explains the Uniform Tire Quality Grading (UTQG) system and the meaning of UTQG treadwear, traction and temperature ratings, TIA said. When motorists buy two replacement tires, the video stresses, they should be mounted on the rear axle to avoid oversteer and loss of control on wet surfaces.
“Tire Safety Starts with Tire Selection” is available on YouTube and on TIA's website. Tire retailers may also provide their customers a link to the video by contacting Donna Sage, TIA director of marketing and communications, at [email protected].
