ESSEN, Germany (Nov. 25, 2014) — Messe Essen G.m.b.H., the entity that runs the Essen Fairgrounds and organizes the biennial “Reifen” trade fair, is going ahead with a $112 million modernization of the site, albeit not until 2016.
The project forsees replacing the 14 smaller exhibiton halls with five single-storey halls over three-plus years with “optimized logistics” and upgraded amenities, including air conditioning, Messe Essen said.
The reconfigured fair grounds will be anchored at the east entrance by a 21,500-sq.-ft. glass foyer that will feature meeting rooms, a guest lounge and a VIP club, Messe Essen said.
“The modernization is an important step towards making our fair venue attractive and competitive,” said Messe Essen CEO Oliver Kuhrt. “I am very pleased that our conversion concept fulfills the wishes of exhibitors and visitors.
“Short distances, contemporary architecture as well as a spacious, one-storey hall structure with easy access — the ‘New Messe Essen' will provide perfect conditions for both trade and consumer fairs.”
The ground-breaking ceremony for the project will take place on May 2, 2016, shortly before the start of Reifen 2016, scheduled for May 24-27.
