WASHINGTON (Nov. 19, 2014) — Hiroshi Shimizu, senior vice president-global quality assurance for Takata Corp., will testify Nov. 20 before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation at a hearing titled, “Examining Takata Airbag Defects and the Vehicle Recall Process.”
The purpose of the hearing, according to a Senate Commerce press release, is to examine the circumstances behind a series of recalls of airbags manufactured by Takata. The hearing will focus on how defective Takata airbags came to be installed on 7.8 million vehicles among 10 auto makers in the U.S. alone, the committee said.
Besides Mr. Shimizu, the list of witnesses includes David Friedman, deputy administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; Rick Schostek, executive vice president of Honda North Americal and Scott Kunselman, senior vice president-vehicle safety and regulatory compliance for Chrysler Group L.L.C.
The hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. in 253 Russell Senate Office Building. It also will be webcast from the committee website.
